Webinar Series- WiredRE Research Shows Over-Specifying and Over-Provisioning Top Risks in Cloud, Colo, & Data Center
How to Diversify Risk via Hybrid Cloud, Colo, and Data Center (“Portfolio”) Investing Topic of Multi-Part Series.
Las Vegas, Nevada (Sept. 29, 2014) —According to primary market research from the Wired Real Estate Group Inc. (“WiredRE”) a full 90% of firms in the US overprovision cloud and data center infrastructure by 25 to 50% or more. Long-term, fixed asset investing is risky, and in the contemporary data center industry, self-taught IT staff are applying IT budget cycles and investment analysis to 20 year fixed assets of upwards of $50 to $100 million or more. Additionally, the fixed asset side of most firms, in the form of facilities and real estate, is divorced from the other side of the house, namely IT and cloud operations. This perfect storm of big investments with little integration and oversight has resulted in an industry where over-provisioning is the norm. Smart, high-growth firms, such as Intuit, UBS, and Zynga have grossly over-invested in data centers.
“With 90 percent of the industry over-provisioning, we need to get smarter about forecasting, provisioning, and spreading risk across multiple platforms that have varying performance and demand response,” commented Everett Thompson, CEO, WiredRE.
WiredRE will host a multi-part webinar series on November 6th, December 11th, and January 15th to facilitate cloud, colocation and data center planning for 2015. The first event in the series will specifically address cloud and data center portfolio investing, cloud bursting, and demand response, followed by global data center supply trend and opportunities, and a feature on data center modular total cost analysis.
This series is targeted toward technology leaders, IT procurement managers, and senior financial staff who wish to understand best practices in selecting cloud, colocation, and data center alternatives.
