The owner of Georgina's Fusion Cuisine buys Wealthy Street location.
GRAND RAPIDS, MI -Georgina's Fusion Cuisine is coming to Grand Rapids.
The downtown Traverse City favorite is often described as a taqueria with an Asian twist.
The eatery is slated to open its second location this summer at 724 Wealthy St. after a former shop is renovated into restaurant space.
Anthony Craig, Georgina's owner and chef, says he was drawn to the West Michigan city reminds him of South Tampa where he grew up in a multicultural family with Cuban and Chinese roots.
"When I visited Grand Rapids, I liked how local people were walking around," Craig said. "I don't have that type of atmosphere year-round in Traverse City."
He bought the building that previously housed Phil's Stuff. The first floor will be turned into a 2,860-square foot restaurant with outdoor seating. The second floor has two apartments.
The Wealthy Street location seemed like "the perfect location for Georgina's because it is close to downtown and in a vibrant corridor," said Todd Leinberger, a real estate agent with NAI Wisinski of West Michigan, who represented Craig in the deal.
