Renowned Philly Restaurateur and Personality Finds Living at Dockside Like a Vacation Every Day
Philadelphia, PA, March 2017: Tony “Luke” Lucidonio Jr. knows his way around Philadelphia. Though he’s traveled the world – opening restaurants, performing in films, appearing on TV shows, and for other adventures – the South Philly native and owner of the world-famous Tony Luke’s restaurants has called the City of Brotherly Love “home” his entire life. But he has never felt more at home then he has since moving three years ago to The Residences at Dockside, one of Philly’s most popular waterfront condominium communities. “Living here is absolutely amazing,” Luke said enthusiastically. “I was hooked from the moment I got here and I have no intention of moving!”
The 16-story luxury building has earned a reputation as one of the area’s most unique residential experiences. Quietly set on the Delaware River, the building features upscale condominiums with a low-maintenance lifestyle and some of the finest resort-style amenities available in the area. Residents are close to Center City and within easy walking distance to all the best of Philadelphia. For Tony Luke, it’s an experience he likens to being on vacation every day.
“The greatest thing about Dockside is how it allows you to live in the city, without feeling like you’re in the city,” Luke explained. “The best way to describe it is like you’re living in South Philly on vacation every day. It’s like living in a luxurious hotel – you never have to worry about a thing. If you’re someone like me who travels a lot, there’s no better place in the world than living here. There is always someone here to take care of things. We have incredible twenty-four-hour security, our mail is taken care of, there’s no maintenance to worry about. It’s ideal.”
Luke was living in another Philadelphia high-rise condo building, but something about Dockside kept tugging at him. “It’s hard to explain,” he said. “There was just something about the look and the lure of this building. Every time I passed by, it was like it was calling me to go in and look at it. I also have a lot of friends who lived here and always talked about it. So, one day when my lease at the old place was running out, I went to check it out – and I was completely blown away. I looked at a few other places in the city, but I always came back to this crazy-looking, beautiful, alluring building. It really doesn’t look like anything else in the city. And one of the great things about Dockside is that it’s actually built over the water. A lot of condos say they’re on the water, but you’re really just along the water. Here, you’re actually on the water. It feels like you’re on a ship! Everywhere you look, you just see water.”
At Dockside, buyers can choose from spacious two- and three-bedroom condominium homes in a variety of floorplans, with prices that start from the $400,000s. The building also offers units for short-term rentals. All homes feature expansive private terraces, designer kitchens with high-end appliances and granite countertops, in-unit washers and dryers, hardwood floors, and generous storage space. Residents enjoy gated access, state-of-the-art security, a 24-hour concierge, and ample indoor parking, with reserved spaces and free visitor parking. Amenities include an indoor pool and hot tub, a fitness center with cardio and resistance equipment, and a spacious Club Room for entertaining, which features a full catering kitchen, pool table, grand piano, large-screen TV and adjacent 4,100-square-foot terrace overlooking the river. Residents can also take advantage of a free shuttle bus that runs daily from their building to Center City, with a number of convenient stops.
“It could not be more perfect for me,” Luke shared said when asked about his condo. “The layout is incredible. It has a very warm feel and the view is absolutely spectacular. I have a nice-size kitchen, the master bedroom is very large, and second bedroom is also a nice size – I use it for an exercise room. I also use the pool and I’ve used the Club Room more than a few times to host parties. It’s an amazing common area for residents to gather. People go there to watch sports or movies. They host a ton of special events there for residents to get to know each other, including Thursday socials where people bring food and wine. And the giant outdoor terrace is the best spot in the city to watch the fireworks on the river.”
Located in the center of the thriving Delaware River waterfront, Dockside is a short walk from Penn’s Landing and close to lots of high-end shopping, restaurants and nightlife. The Race Street Pier, Sugarhouse Casino, Delaware River Trail, Seaport Museum, Adventure Aquarium and Susquehanna Bank Center are all easily accessible. Residents can also take a short walk over the South Street Bridge for more great shopping and dining in the city. And the community’s close proximity to major thoroughfares, including I-95, I-76 and 676, makes it easy for residents to travel to the Jersey shore or anywhere throughout the tri-state area.
While Luke travels around the world for work and other entrepreneurial adventures, there’s one experience that takes him away from Dockside that is particularly close to his heart. Luke is part of a group known as the Mess Lords, a group of chefs from all over the country who love to entertain and cook for U.S. troops. “I’m truly blessed and honored to be part of this group,” Luke shared. “We donate our time to travel to different Navy bases and ships, to cook for the troops. It’s a great feeling to be able to bring them a little flair and fun of home. We cook for anywhere from five hundred to five thousand per shift! It’s indescribable. Meeting and talking to these military men and women – people don’t always recognize what an amazing sacrifice they make every day, putting their lives on the line to preserve our way of life. They deserve every accolade in the world!”
No matter where he goes, Tony Luke always loves returning home to Dockside. “When I love something, I yell about it from the top of my lungs!” he said, laughing. “This place has been unbelievably kind and generous to me. Everything about it is residential and guest-friendly. The staff is amazing – very friendly and so accommodating. While the homes and the views are fantastic, in the end, the people are the reason I stay here. I’m always made to feel incredibly welcome. It’s like having a huge, extended family.”
