REED CONSTRUCTION SELECTED TO COMPLETE RENOVATIONS FOR AFTER SCHOOL MATTERS

CHICAGO | September 13, 2016 – Reed Construction is pleased to announce that the firm was recently selected to complete extensive renovations for The Michael and Karyn Lutz Family Center for After School Matters, located at 3435 North Cicero Avenue in Chicago, Illinois. The building was recently generously donated to After School Matters by The Michael and Karyn Lutz Family Foundation.

Established in 1991, After School Matters is a non-profit organization providing life-changing after-school and summer program opportunities for more than 15,000 Chicago teens each year. Participants are encouraged to explore and develop their talents while gaining critical skills to benefit them in work, college and beyond.

Reed was selected to perform renovations to the organization’s existing space – a four-story, 34,000 square foot steel and masonry commercial office building, which After School Matters is planning to transform into a world-class neighborhood programming facility dedicated to teenagers. The project scope will include general site improvements, installation of new entrance canopies and a new, four-level exit stair tower. An upgraded water service will be installed to accommodate a new automated sprinkler system, as well as new incoming electrical service and an overall upgrade to the existing MEP infrastructure. The building façade will be updated with new window punch-ins, metal panel systems and painting of the existing masonry. Interior features of the new space will include a culinary kitchen center, computer labs, dance studios and multiple art studios. The project is slated for completion in January 2017.

Senior Project Manager Joe Kozlowski will be leading the team for Reed Construction. Joining him will be Project Manager Erik Gunderson, Project Engineer James Tang and Project Superintendent John Menendez. Architectural services are being provided by Eckenhoff Saunders Architects. SPAAN Tech, Inc. is serving as the owner’s representative.
