Red Bank Appeal Draws Staten Island Couple to The Ivy at Shrewsbury

03/05/2014

Shrewsbury, NJ, March 2014: As New Yorkers, Lindsey and Robert Pietrocola were accustomed to bright lights and the big city. But when the Staten Island couple decided to buy their first home this year, it was the bright lights and cosmopolitan appeal of a different place that beckoned them.

“We were looking for a place close to Red Bank,” Robert said. “We often came from Staten Island to see the fireworks at Red Bank and for the nightlife. It’s a great area and we decided that’s where we’d like to be.” Located on the Navesink River in Monmouth County, NJ, Red Bank is a hub of activity in the region. With charming brick sidewalks and Victorian street lamps, the town offers an eclectic dining, nightlife and shopping scene that rivals hot spots like Greenwich Village in New York City.

Knowing where they wanted to live was the first step in their home-buying process. Then came the challenge of finding the right home. “We looked at a lot of communities and a lot of homes, both re-sale and new construction,” Robert shared. “We started looking online and in newspapers,” Lindsey added, “but after a while when you see them online, they all start to look alike! So we were much more interested in driving around the Red Bank area to see the homes and communities in person to get a better understanding of what each location had to offer.”

It was on one of their drives around the area that Lindsey and Robert came across The Ivy at Shrewsbury, a new townhome community in Monmouth County from award-winning builder, K. Hovnanian® Homes®. “We drove past and saw the signs for the community,” Lindsey continued. “Due to its proximity to Red Bank and the downtown area, and also how close it was to the water, we decided to stop in and take a look.”

They immediately liked what they saw at The Ivy. As the only new-construction townhome community of its kind in the popular Red Bank-Shrewsbury-Little Silver-Fair Haven area, The Ivy has appealed to a wide variety of buyers throughout New Jersey and beyond, including many first-time buyers like the Pietrocolas. The community features distinctive three-story townhomes at a very affordable price-point, from the mid-$400,000s (subject to change). Add to that an extremely commuter-friendly location near a hot destination like Red Bank, and it’s easy to see why the community now has only seven homes remaining.

“The location is what really drew us here first,” Robert said. “That’s what brought us in. It has great access to highways and mass transit. We looked at other communities that were further out, but it was too difficult to gain access to a main town or an area where there are things to do, like Red Bank. So for us, it was a lot about proximity and transit and travel, but also the community aspect as well. With living in the community comes low-maintenance and a great sense of security. We were also pleased that the homes were new construction, and upon further inspection noticed that each home had high-quality materials throughout. We knew we wouldn’t need additional work on the home for quite some time and that interested us greatly.”

The Ivy’s prime location is indeed a key advantage that attracts many buyers to the community. The Red Bank-Shrewsbury area is truly one of the most desirable and convenient locations in Monmouth County. And with its easy access to the Garden State Parkway and mass transit, The Ivy is a commuter’s dream come true. Homeowners are only two miles from the NJ Transit train station in Red Bank, which offers direct service to New York’s Penn Station. They are also within walking distance of a bus stop that leads to Port Authority, making it very convenient for city commuters. Lindsey Kirpan-Pietrocola works as a teacher in Newark and says, “I take the train all the time and it’s very easy.” And with family in New York and North Jersey, finding a conveniently located community near good transportation options was key for the couple.

Additionally, The Ivy is located only about five miles from the beach; a mere three miles from the fine dining, art galleries, boutiques and shops, entertainment and nightlife of downtown Red Bank; and only one mile from the upscale Grove at Shrewsbury and The Galleria, two popular shopping complexes in the area. It’s also close to two of the region’s largest medical facilities, Monmouth Medical Center and Riverview Medical Center.

The remaining homes at The Ivy are St. Andrews models, offering approximately 2,179 square feet of living space, with three bedrooms, three bathrooms, attached two-car garages and optional finished basements. The Pietrocolas chose a three-bedroom Sawgrass home, which they moved into this past August. In addition to liking the layout and design of the home, they appreciated having the extra rooms, with an eye toward the future. “We chose this model for longevity and for the future, so we’ll be ready to grow into the house as our family grows,” Lindsey shared.

Robert was also quick to acknowledge the quality of workmanship with the homes at The Ivy. “We were really impressed and interested in what K. Hovnanian® gave us behind the walls,” he commented. “They offered a lot of things in comparison to other places we looked at – better quality, better materials and just overall better workmanship.”

They were also impressed with the quality of service they received from The Ivy. “Our buying experience was quite good,” Robert shared. “All the way through, everyone was very helpful, totally aware and responsive. There was great communication throughout and we appreciated how Denise let us make our decision. She gave us all the information we needed and then stepped back and let us decide.” Lindsey agreed, adding, “The process was all very quick and easy.”

After a few months of living in their new home and their new community at The Ivy, the Pietrocolas are very happy with their decision. “We really like it here,” Robert said. “It’s a great location and a great home. Every day, we’re feeling more and more a part of Red Bank and the community as a whole.”

Whether you’re a first-time buyer like the Pietrocolas, or a more established homeowner interested in downsizing to a desirable townhome lifestyle that requires much lower maintenance, The Ivy at Shrewsbury is the ideal community.
