RealTech Returns to Deep Ellum With a Focus on Retail

(December 12, 2015 – Dallas, TX) – RealTech, a quarterly series of events conducted with the intention of connecting the startup ecosystem to innovative, forward thinking real estate professionals, is returning to Dallas’s Deep Ellum neighborhood in January with a focus on the retail sector for RealTech Dallas 2015: Retail Edition. Registration for the event, which will take place at The Common Desk in Deep Ellum on January 20, 2015 is currently still open, but capped at 200.

Hosted by Nick Clark of The Common Desk and John Backes of DXZ Media, the event represents the nexus point between two of the largest industries in Dallas: real estate and technology.

Dallas saw over $300 million in angel and venture investment in 2014, and across the U.S., 2014 was a huge year for real estate technology startups, with over $170 million being allocated nationwide. The retail sector, in particular, has managed to capitalize on the elements of recent innovation, enablement and disruption including mobile, social context, big data, connective devices, robotics, computer vision, online payments and near-field communication.

John Backes, president of DXZ Media, founder of real estate startup Realfolio, and co- organizer of the event, said “As much as we’re proud of the growth in funding events happening in Dallas, what we’re actually looking to do is bring the startup culture in Dallas that has been carefully crafted by countless people, and introduce them to our traditional mainstay: commercial real estate.”

RealTech Dallas 2015: Retail Edition will introduce Dallas area startups that are innovating for the retail industry, including two that are recent graduates from Dallas’s VentureSpur Accelerator Program. They are:

·      Convoyer (

·      Hostspot (

·      Spacee (

·      JoinMe@ (

“We will start at 5:30 p.m. with an open bar and a chance to meet cool people, with speakers starting at 6:20 p.m.” said John Backes. “Ultimately, we’re looking to attract forward-thinking, innovative commercial real estate, property management, architecture, design, planning, construction, and retail professionals and anyone else who is interested to come and see what’s happening right here, in their own back yard, and create real relationships of lasting value. Innovation happens in the context of visionary, talented, multidisciplinary people coming together.”
