PulteGroup Names Steve Schlageter as Division President for Northeast Corridor Division
BASKING RIDGE, N.J. (Feb. 25, 2013) — PulteGroup, the nation’s leading homebuilder, has announced that Steve Schlageter has been named President of the company’s Northeast Corridor division, as well as Area President for PulteGroup’s Northeast Area, which includes the Washington, D.C., Baltimore and Boston markets.
Utilizing an innovative branding strategy in which it aligns distinct brands with defined homebuyer segments — Centex for first-time homebuyers; Pulte Homes for the move-up market; and Del Webb for active adults —PulteGroup’s Northeast Corridor division operates 14 communities throughout the region, which encompasses New Jersey, Metro New York and the Delaware Valley.
“I’m extremely excited to take on the challenge of leading the Northeast Corridor division, which is well positioned to expand its share of the market,” Schlageter said. “We expect to see solid demand at the communities we are selling today, and are actively seeking out opportunities to invest in new communities across our entire footprint.”
Schlageter, who joined PulteGroup in 2002 as the brand manager for starter homes in the Atlanta market, expects the housing market to continue to improve in 2013 and the future.
“All the signs that people use to evaluate the health of the housing environment are certainly improving and continue to improve,” he said. “In the Northeast Corridor, we can expect to see industry sales in 2013 continue to move higher as pent-up demand is released, especially in the areas that are most popular such as Northern New Jersey, Montgomery/Bucks and the Shore.”
Most recently, Schlageter served as PulteGroup’s vice president of strategic planning. Based out of the company’s headquarters in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., he led the effort to outline PulteGroup’s path through the recent recession and strategic positioning into the recovery. He believes that experience will aid him in his new role.
“The Northeast Corridor division is a microcosm of the macro environment,” he explained. “There are submarkets that are recovering differently than others based on simple supply and demand, and we’re looking to expand our position in the markets where I think we have the best opportunity.”
Schlageter has also served as president of the company’s Raleigh, N.C. division, where he was responsible for managing the overall operations of the market, including land acquisition and development, sales, marketing, mortgage, construction and customer service.
Prior to joining PulteGroup, Schlageter served as chief operating officer of a Chicago-based eCommerce provider, where he helped lead the company to a successful acquisition by a public corporation. He began his career at Accenture, where he spent nine years defining and delivering process and technology solutions to Fortune 500 companies.
Schlageter will be relocating to New Jersey with his wife and three children, and earned a B.A. in computer science from Boston College.
