We are excited to share that our very own President and CEO, Robert Francis, is featured in the October 26th edition of NJBIZ’s “Triple Play” column. This column, based in the ‘Opinions’ section, highlights three industry tips from one of the state’s top business leaders. Please read below for Rob’s expert article on how to successfully motivate and retain a growing building service workforce.
Robert Francis is CEO and president of Planned Companies, a fourth-generation real estate services company headquartered in Parsippany with more than 2,800 employees, which provides janitorial, maintenance, concierge and security services for more than 1,400 properties throughout the Northeast and mid-Atlantic.
We asked Robert how to motivate and retain a growing building service workforce:
1. Screening/selection: It all starts with the hiring process. Hire individuals who possess the passion, integrity and positive attitudes required for the service business from the onset. It is difficult to teach positivity and impossible with integrity; either you have it or don’t.
2. Educate and empower: Offer both on-site and e-learning to advance the capabilities and skill sets of each team member, which will allow for growth both personally and professionally.
3. Recognition and respect: To instill a culture of customer service and accountability, it is crucial to recognize and reward the contributions that yield the desired results. Team members want to be acknowledged and recognized for living the core values of the company, resulting in increased morale and retention.
