Philly Restaurateur Finds Living at Residences at Dockside a Treasure
Philadelphia, PA, March 2014: After living for three years in South Jersey, Geno Vento was ready to come back home to Philadelphia. The Vento family business was very well established and successful in South Philly, where it’s been since 1966 when Geno’s father, Joey Vento, started the legendary Geno's Steaks on South 9th Street at Passyunk Avenue. When Joey Vento passed away in 2011, Geno took over the business – so it was only natural for Geno to come home again. “Philly is where I want to be,” Geno said. “It’s the right location and it’s convenient for me to be here since I need to be close to the business.”
Knowing he wanted to live in the city was one thing; deciding where to move in Philadelphia was the more challenging decision. But Geno had a pretty good hunch where he was going to end up: at The Residences at Dockside, the 16-story luxury waterfront condominium set on the edge of the Delaware River. “I would always see the building when I was driving around and thought it looked like a really unique place. Then when it came time for me to actually move from New Jersey to Philly, one of the stops my realtor had for me was Dockside, not even knowing I was already interested in it! My search was kind of small – I ended up only looking at maybe three or four different places. I kept it limited because I knew what I wanted: someplace that was high-end, very private, with good security and amenities like a pool, a gym and other conveniences. So that kind of narrowed down my choices.”
After his first visit to The Residences at Dockside, Geno looked no further. The building not only met, but surpassed his checklist of requirements. “After going in and seeing the homes, seeing the amenities, the community, how central the location is to everywhere you want to be, it was basically a no-brainer for me. The place was just amazing.”
The Residences at Dockside has that kind of immediate effect on people. Quietly set on the water, close to Center City but far enough away from all the “buzz” of the city, The Residences at Dockside has earned a reputation as one of Philadelphia’s most unique residential experiences. Residents enjoy luxury homes on the water, a low-maintenance lifestyle, and a variety of appealing on-site amenities – without all the hassles associated with single-family home ownership. The building also provides easy access to some of the best the city has to offer – including unparalleled views of the Ben Franklin Bridge, the Philadelphia skyline and the Delaware River waterfront.
The one-, two- and three-bedroom condominium homes at The Residences at Dockside are elegant and spacious, with a variety of floorplans available to suit many different lifestyles. All homes feature expansive private terraces, designer kitchens with high-end appliances and granite countertops, in-unit washers and dryers, hardwood floors and generous storage space. The condominiums can also be fully customized to meet buyers’ needs. Prices start from the upper-$200,000s.
Geno Vento purchased an “Enterprise” home, a two-bedroom end-unit corner floorplan, which he moved into in March of 2012. “It’s spectacular,” Vento commented. “I have a huge wrap-around deck that faces the city, so there are great views of the skyline and the Ben Franklin Bridge. I absolutely love it. When I have guests over, no one wants to leave! It’s too much fun and they love it here, too.”
In addition to the spectacular homes, The Residences at Dockside provides a high level of privacy, which Vento truly appreciates. Residents enjoy gated access, state-of-the-art security, a 24-hour concierge, and ample indoor parking including reserved spaces. “The parking was a huge factor for me, and the feeling of safety,” Geno acknowledged. “I really like the 24-hour security. When I come home, I always feel safe – and it’s nice to know there’s always someone there to greet me. And no matter where you are in the building, there’s always someone saying ‘hi’ and asking about you. People really care about you here.”
Living at Dockside, residents are never at a loss for social or recreational opportunities, either at home in their building, or just steps away from their front door. Located in the center of the thriving Delaware River waterfront, Dockside is a short walk away from Penn’s Landing and close to lots of high-end shopping, restaurants and nightlife. The Race Street Pier, Sugarhouse Casino, Delaware River Trail, Seaport Museum, Adventure Aquarium and Susquehanna Bank Center are all easily accessible from Dockside. In addition, residents can take a short walk over the South Street Bridge to more great shopping and dining in the city, or take advantage of the free shuttle bus that runs daily from their building to Center City. “I love being so close and being able to walk to the city,” Geno said. “I can be in Center City in less than ten minutes, or be on South Street going to the farmer’s market. It’s so convenient.”
Something else Vento enjoys are the resort-like amenities offered at The Residences at Dockside. “I love having the pool and the gym here,” Geno said. “After a long day I can go and work out at night, or whenever it’s convenient for me. And it’s great when you have friends over, to go down and hang out at the pool.” The building not only features a heated indoor pool and wellness center, but also a spacious Club Room for entertaining. This community room features a full catering kitchen, pool table, grand piano, large-screen TV and adjacent 4,100-square-foot terrace overlooking the river. Many residents use the room, which can accommodate up to 300 people, to host private parties and business meetings.
Geno Vento has found Dockside to be a very social community – and he’s often at the center of the action. “It’s fantastic. In fact, I’m kind of known as the ‘mini mayor’ of Dockside,” he said, laughing. “I love entertaining and bringing people together. Every second Thursday of the month we have a big social event in the Club Room. Anybody who’s new in the building, we try to tell them about it. A lot of us go out to dinner, or to shows or movies, or maybe a piano bar. I’ll have some other residents over for drinks on the deck. We’re constantly hanging out and doing things together. Your neighbors here, they become like friends and family to you. And it’s a really nice mix of people – older, younger, every mix you can imagine. There’s a really strong sense of community.”
The Residences at Dockside truly offers one of the most distinguished, unique and convenient lifestyles in Philadelphia – and nobody is more of a champion for the building than Geno Vento. “I talk about this place to somebody every week,” he said, laughing again. “When I come home every day, I really look forward to being at home. I can travel and be anywhere else, but I love being at home here. Dockside is a treasure. I’ve had multiple homes and summer homes and I’ve sold them all. I only have Dockside now. It’s the only place I want!”
