Parette Somjen Architects Wins Award and Struts Their Stuff at 2013 "Fashion Meets Finish" Gala
Kean University/Union NJ -- “Sinister Design” was the theme at the second annual International Interior Design Association's (IIDA) Fashion Meets Finish event, where design professionals create wearable art constructed from materials provided by sponsoring manufacturers. At an evening gala last night, each team modeled their wearable garment on a catwalk for a year’s worth of bragging rights. The spirit of this event was fun and light-hearted yet competitive, and the 'fashion' was fierce, creative, outrageous and phenomenal. Celebrity judges, such as Austin Scarlett from Project Runway, and spectators alike were impressed by the variety and drama of the outfits, constructed from products used in the design world: tile, surfacing and flooring materials, furniture, fabric, wall systems and more!
Parette Somjen Architects entered the show for its second year, and was paired up with DIRTT (Doing it Right This Time), a manufacturer of sustainable prefab wall systems, millwork, and other customizable architectural interiors. Team PSA showcased the fashion sense and hard work of Melissa Insinga, Erin Vasold, Hae-An Chyun, Anny Chan, Desiree Guastella, Eldion Habazaj, and an additional team of supporting individuals. PSA’s model, Larissa Semegen, strutted down the catwalk in a fierce and folded black and red garment, featuring a bodice of scales and bony plates, a folded angular skirt on the left side, and a “spine and tail,” to create a dark and sinister diva.
After hours of cutting, folding, designing, working and reworking a variety of DIRTT materials to create a sculptural garment, along with theatrical makeup to complete the look, the team was rewarded for its hard work with an award for “Best Use of Materials.”
Parette Somjen Architects is proud to participate in this special event with the goal of raising money in support of the Interior Design Student Community in New Jersey. For more information about Parette Somjen Architects, please see www.planetpsa.com
