One Look Was All it took for Bergen Couple to Choose Little Egg Harbor 55+ Community
Little Egg Harbor, NJ, April 2014: After living for 40 years in the tiny, unassumingly elite borough of Alpine, NJ, Ginger and Bill Baumann were ready to downsize for a change in lifestyle. Little did the Bergen County couple know that their desire for change would lead them over a hundred miles south, to K. Hovnanian’sÒFour Seasons at Harbor Bay, one of New Jersey’s most popular active-adult communities. The Little Egg Harborcommunity has increasingly attracted a growing number of residents from North Jersey and New York, for a variety of reasons. For Ginger and Bill, it all started with a newspaper ad.
“I was reading the paper one day and came across an ad for the community that showed a floorplan,” Bill recalled. “Right away, I thought it was fantastic; just what we were looking for. We had lived in Alpine for 40 years in a raised-ranch house. We were looking for a one-level home without all the labor – cutting grass and all that sort of stuff. I showed Ginger and then we went online to look further.” Just one look – and they were hooked. “We fell in love with the Monterey model,” Ginger said. They decided to make a trip down to Ocean County to visit the community – which only confirmed their initial impression.
“We came down here with a check in our pocket,” Bill said, laughing. “We looked at the Monterey model and once again we both fell in love with it! We took a drive around the community, liked what we saw and in a matter of a few hours, we had put down a deposit.” The couple moved into their new Monterey home at K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Harbor Bay last August.
The Monterey is just one of several attractive single-level homes available at K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Harbor Bay. For some buyers, like Ginger and Bill, it’s the homes that attract them to the community. For others, it’s the unbeatable, resort-like amenities and maintenance-free lifestyle that beckons – or the appeal of the nearby Jersey Shore. And for others, it’s the attraction of low taxes, which are substantially less than many other active-adult communities in the state. Combine all these benefits and it’s easy to understand why the Little Egg Harbor community has become a “destination” neighborhood for a large number of 55+ homebuyers from North Jersey and all throughout the Garden State.
Quietly located amidst the natural beauty of Great Bay, just fifteen minutes from Long Beach Island and close to the excitement of Atlantic City, the private, gated community offers a choice of eight different home designs, priced from the high-$200,000s (prices are subject to change). Homeowners enjoy an outstanding Jersey Shore location, with a variety of resort-like amenities on-site and nearby.
All homes feature two to three bedrooms, a home office and two baths, as well as two-level loft-style homes that offer three to four bedrooms and three baths. The Monterey is an elegant, smartly designed home with an appealing open floorplan.
“Everything is just beautiful – we couldn’t have built a better floorplan than this,” Bill commented. “We like how the owner’s suite is separate and private. The second bedroom is in the front of the house, with a bathroom right off of it. We like how the dining room and kitchen and great room all flow into each other. And the loft above the garage is great.” Ginger chimed in, adding, “And no more stairs – that’s a key thing. Bill took a fall on our stairs at home in Alpine, so no more stairs for us! We really do love it – and our families can’t believe how beautiful this place is. We wanted to downsize – but upgrade at the same time. And that’s exactly what we did at K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Harbor Bay.”
In addition to offering homeowners a variety of impressive home designs, K. Hovnanian's® Four Seasons at Harbor Bay also offers a wealth of amenities and activities to enjoy. The heart of the neighborhood is the community’s magnificent two-story Clubhouse and Recreation Center. This 16,000 square-foot, seashore-inspired facility features indoor and outdoor pools, sun decks, a fitness center, spa, billiards and craft rooms, tennis, bocce, horseshoes and more. The facility was voted “Clubhouse of the Year” in 2011 by the New Jersey Shore Builder's Association.
“We’re more active here than we’ve ever been in our lives!” Ginger admitted. “We go twice a week to an aqua-fit class. Bill joined a fishing class. We go to most of the gatherings they have. We walk about two miles every day. We never did any of those things in Alpine. And everyone is so nice. We’ve become like a family in such a short time. Oh, one last note: my granddaughter loves it here, too. She thinks I have my own personal indoor and outdoor pools, just for her. I think maybe when she’s about 14 years old we’ll let her know the truth!”
Ideally located near some of the Jersey Shore’s most famous beaches, K. Hovnanian’sÒFour Seasons at Harbor Bay is tucked away from all the hustle and bustle, yet remarkably close to the Garden State Parkway and other major highways. The community offers easy access to plenty of outstanding dining, entertainment and shopping choices. The Sea Oaks Golf Club, a championship 18-hole public golf course, is adjacent to the community. Boating, fishing, great marinas, historic lighthouses, sun-drenched beaches – all of these wonderful amenities are just minutes away.
Being from North Jersey, Ginger and Bill were new to the Little Egg Harbor area – but they’ve quickly come to appreciate all it has to offer. “For us, moving here wasn’t really about the area. We liked the home so much and fell in love with the community, so it wasn’t really a hard decision to come down here. Plus, we both like the shore. But the area and the shopping centers and restaurants and all the amenities are fantastic. Although to be honest, we don’t even have to leave the community to have a great time. It’s just so pleasant here!”
Ginger and Bill were also not too familiar with K. Hovnanian®, but their experience working with the team at Harbor Bay reinforced what they knew. “We had heard that K. Hovnanian® was such a great name and that they were such a good builder, so we didn’t have any hesitations – and we have no regrets.” Bill said. “They’re all great people and we’ve never had a problem.” Ginger was quick to commend the team, as well. “Bill Kurtz should win ‘salesman of the year’,” she said emphatically. “He was such a joy to work with; it was not a hard-sell at all. He always answered all our questions. Plus, he’s a very active part of our community. He and his family were out there for our community Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. It’s just one more thing that made us really like this community.”
