NAIOP MD/DC Honors Cassidy Turley with Three Awards of Excellence

WASHINGTON, DC – Cassidy Turley, a leading commercial real estate services provider in the U.S., announced today that it was honored by NAIOP Maryland/DC Chapter with three “Awards of Excellence” at their annual event held on Thursday, October 3 at the Willard InterContinental.

The firm won awards in the following categories that were given based on the significance of size, risk or difficulty of the deal:

Best Sale Under $20 Million

  • 50 M Street, SE

Best Sale $20-$50 Million

  • Washington Design Center

Best Tenant Lease 15,001-75,000 square feet

  • Al Jazeera at 1200 New Hampshire Avenue

50 M Street is a 15,567 square foot land site located at the intersection of M and Half Streets, in the dynamic Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.  The site is located directly across the street from the Navy Yard-Ballpark Metro Station, allowing it to benefit from multimodal transportation options and proximity to Nationals Park, Barracks Row, the Southwest Waterfront and the U.S. Capitol.  Additionally, a number of highly anticipated amenities are planned to deliver over the next year, including a host of restaurant offerings in The Yards, Harris Teeter Grocery Store, VIDA Fitness and Aura Spa. The Cassidy Turley team, consisting of James Cassidy, Jayne Shister and Chris Doerr, was recognized for the complexity of this transaction.  The site represents the highest sale price per Floor Area Ratio (FAR) square feet in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood since well before the economic downturn.

The Washington Design Center is a 391,089 SF building and the only design center in the region.  Washington Design Center is 81% showroom/designer space with the balance dedicated for office use.  Built in the 1920s, 55% of the property is occupied by Design Concept showrooms which display manufacturers’ furniture, finishes, fixtures, and fabric. In addition to the showroom space, 19% of the building was leased as office space to government and government contractors.  The Cassidy Turley team recognized for the repositioning and reuse of this project is Bill Collins, Paul Collins, James Cassidy, Jud Ryan and Drew Flood.

Zeke Dodson, Kerri Mulligan Salih and Jonathan Wellborn of Cassidy Turley were honored for their creative solutions in representing Al Jazeera International, Inc. in a lease with the landlords, AION Partners and The Carlyle Group, to occupy 47,000 square feet of Class A office space at 1200 New Hampshire Avenue in Washington’s Central Business District (CBD) submarket.  The transaction followed the 2012 renovation at the building which added a new two-story lobby, a 22-foot glass entrance, fully renovated elevator cabs and a new tenant-only fitness facility with locker rooms.
