The Missner Group Completes 532,560 Square Foot Food Processing Project in Romeoville
(Skokie, Illinois) – The Missner Group is pleased to announce that the firm has completed a $35 million tenant improvement, repurposing project on behalf of Peacock Engineering Co. at 1001 W. Crossroads Parkway in Romeoville, Illinois.
“The extensive project included a demolition of existing interior space to reconfigure the facility for an entirely new use,” said Barry Missner, president of The Missner Group. “The construction of a food processing facility requires a substantial knowledge of the systems needed to process food safely as well as the various rules and regulations of the USDA. Our team, well-versed in this type of construction, assembled a strong team of experts and coordinated the process to ensure an efficient completion of the specialized space.”
Located within ProLogis Park 55, the facility will be used to repackage frozen goods which requires portions of the building to be temperature controlled to specific degrees at all times. The 532,560 square foot project included the complete renovation of the existing warehouse; the addition of 20,000 square feet of office space; multiple processing areas and production lines; and temperature controlled storage spaces.
The production areas include USDA primary and secondary rooms in which the frozen goods will be unpackaged and repackaged for storage and eventually distribution. The primary and secondary rooms feature metal insulated panels, epoxy urethane flooring, and rapid roll, high speed doors to maintain the necessary temperatures. Other features of the property include a cooler and freezer with metal insulated ceilings and walls, floors reconstructed with an in-slab glycol heating system, and sophisticated equipment to execute a daily wash down in the production areas.
“We selected The Missner Group for their experience in the food processing industry,” said Jim Olegarski from Peacock Engineering. “The team understands the construction challenges and essential details of a food-grade facility. We are confident in our choice of this expert team, especially given that this project, which was no small feat, required an expedited schedule.”
The renovated facility also includes a compressed air system, nitrogen generation for the packaging rooms and temperature controlled docking areas. The property features 113,907 square feet of refrigeration and freezer space and a 90,814 square foot production area. Barry Missner, president of The Missner Group, was the project executive and Drue Stoehr, vice president of construction was the project manager leading the construction team. The Missner Group’s Uros Stojakovic served as the project engineer and Gary Bertoncini was the project superintendent. Sparks Architects Incorporated provided the architectural services.
