The MC will be the first full-service hotel to open in Montclair, NJ, since the Hotel Montclair, which closed in 1938. The 120,000 square foot, eight-story hotel will have 148 rooms and suites.Features will include a covered porte-cochere entrywaywith valet parking, a lobby library, a gourmet farm-to-table restaurant, event space, meeting rooms and fitness center. An express elevator will take visitors up to a rooftop bar offering views of Manhattan to the east and the Eagle Rock Reservation to the west.
The MC is part of the Marriott International’s “Autograph Collection” – an international ensemble of strikingly independent hotels selected for quality of design, best locations, bold originality, rich character and uncommon details.
The hotel will be located at the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Orange Road on the western end of Montclair’s central business district. An affluent suburb of New York City, Montclair is located approximately 10 miles northwest of Newark airport and 13 miles west of Manhattan.
An outdoor public plaza connected to a two-story round atrium with 30-foot-high glass walls will serve as a gathering spot for the community. The MC will collaborate with local non-profit groups including Jazz House Kids, the Montclair Film Festival and the Montclair Food & Wine Festival to host various public events throughout the year.
The hotel’s art program, run in partnership with the Township of Montclair, will feature exhibitions throughout the hotel lobby and public areas. Outdoor public art installations will include a sculpture on the public plaza and an art band on the garage.
Groundbreaking for The MC is anticipated during the fourth quarter of 2014 and construction will take approximately 15 months. Estimated opening will be during first quarter of 2016.
Boldly playful with a casual sense of luxury, the hotel’s original, modern design will fit comfortably into Montclair’s community landscape. The property aims to be a destination point and a celebration of the city’s vibrant, unique character.
Hotel and restaurant guests will be offered front-door valet parking in a new six-story full-service parking garage. The garage will include automated parking equipment and solar panels on the top level.
Hotel guests and event participants can travel to Montclair’s six train stations and other attractions on Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV) shuttles and participate in a bike and car share program. For secure bicycle storage at its train stations, Montclair is planning new bike depots, and was recently awarded a $20,000 grant by Sustainable Jersey to build the first one at Bay Street station.
Meeting and Event Space
The project includes 13,000 square feet of corporate offices, conference and meeting room space. The MC is designed to accommodate business meetings and seminars, as well as intimate weddings and social events.
Master Plan/Adjacent Development
The MC is the second phase of the “Montclair Center Gateway Redevelopment Plan” enacted in 2011 to encourage a sustainable mixed-use development at the western edge of downtown. The $120 million project known as CentroVerde redevelops the site of the former DCH Automotive Group, which is part of the Plan area. The property, bounded by Bloomfield Avenue to the north and Valley and Orange roads to the east and west, is a gateway to Montclair’s central business district.
The first phase, being developed by Pinnacle and co-developer, LCOR, has been named “Valley & Bloom.” As the largest residential and commercial development in Montclair’s history, the development will feature two six-story multi-use buildings with 258 residential units, 24,500 square feet of office space and 25,500 square feet of retail space.
