Local Students Participate in Model Home Design at New Howell Township Community
Howell Township, NJ, March 11, 2015 -- Students at Howell High School recently had the unique opportunity to apply their design skills in a real-world setting and bring their creative ideas to life at The Grande at Howell, a new Monmouth County community from D.R. Horton’s Mid-Atlantic division. Under the guidance of Howell High teacher, Diana Monia, students from the school’s “Interior Design” and “Honors Interior Design” classes collaborated with D.R. Horton and Design East Interior Design Company to design and decorate the “Ultimate Teen” bedroom in the new model home at The Grande at Howell.
Based on their curriculum at Howell High, the students presented the builder with a choice of four designs, with themes including performing arts, humanities, fine and practical arts, and sports. The students worked for months on the project, choosing everything from floor to ceiling, including paint colors, flooring, bedding, furniture, window treatments and decorative elements. Each group created a presentation for D.R. Horton’s design team and Design East representatives. After the official presentations, a reception was held, where students and guests were able to discuss the project.
“We were thrilled to be able to offer our students this unique opportunity,” said Diana Monia. “My students were able to gain a real-life experience that cannot be found in a textbook. We’ve had students say that this is the most memorable project they have ever participated in. One of my students is currently enrolled in college, majoring in interior design. We’re so grateful to D.R. Horton and Design East for allowing our students to share in this experience.”
D.R. Horton invited the class to a preview of the chosen sports theme design on February 6, as a finale to this creative collaboration. The public is invited to see the interior design efforts of these local students by taking a tour of the new, beautifully decorated and furnished model home at The Grande at Howell, an intimate, limited-edition collection of 18 luxurious single-family detached homes set on a quiet cul-de-sac in Howell Township.
