Lee & Associates of Illinois' Jay Farnam, Founder of The Velija Corporation, raises $20,000 for the National MS Society - Greater Illinois Chapter
The Velija Corporation hosted their 7th annual BFMS (Barry Farnam Multiple Sclerosis) Charity Golf Classic which turned out to be their most successful fundraising event ever.
CHICAGO - The Velija (VE-LEE-HAH) Corporation recently hosted its 7th Annual BFMS (Barry Farnam Multiple Sclerosis) Charity Golf Classic on September 18th at the Hilton Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale. The event was created in 2009 as a family and friends event on behalf of its namesake, Barry Farnam, the father of one of our own Lee & Associates’ Jay Farnam. Barry was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis over thirty years ago, but in the last ten years the disease has greatly impacted his and his family’s life. Jay and his wife, Heather, started the Velija Corporation as a vehicle to continue raising money for those suffering from this debilitating disease.
This year’s event was a great turnout with over 100 attendees. The sponsorships came from across the country to support a great cause. Lee & Associates sponsored a portion of the event. Just this past month, Jay was able to deliver a $20,000 check to the National MS Society – Greater Illinois Chapter (pictured to the left). This money will be used in research as well as direct assistance and programs.
Jay is quick to note, that this annual event is open to the public and is optimistic of the continued success and outpouring of generous donations to help find a cure for MS. Jay added, “As a small charitable organization, my wife and I are always looking for others to join our board to bring in new ideas and reach new people. We are very proud of the work we have done so far and owe it all to our participants and sponsors. We see many of the same faces every year, and I think that is a testament to a good time had by all while benefiting a great cause.”
What is Multiple Sclerosis?
Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another. Today, new treatments and advances in research are giving new hope to the over 400,000 people affected by the disease in the United States today. Currently, there is no cure.
