Leases Bring Berger's Military Park Building to Full Occupancy
NEWARK, N.J., April 4, 2013 - A series of four recent leases at The Berger Organization's Military Park Building, 60 Park Place in Newark, has brought the 250,000-square-foot, 88-year-old historic landmark office property to full occupancy. Berger's in-house team, headed by Vice President Brendan Berger, negotiated the latest transactions.
Newark Mentoring Movement, a newly established coalition of youth mentoring programs, leased 1,200 square feet at the Military Park Building. The organization launched last July, with the support of former New York Giants defensive end Michael Strahan and Newark Mayor Cory Booker. It streamlines mentoring service for local children and has a goal to mentor 10,000 kids within its first five years.
"The Berger Organization provided an office that perfectly fits our needs as a small startup," noted Aaron Martin, executive director of Newark Mentoring Movement. "This building is comfortable, and the management is always available. It's been great so far."
Additionally, the African Methodist Episcopal Church (A.M.E.) Office of Ecumenical and Urban Affairs leased 1,000 square feet at the Military Park Building; AlDon Bryant of Hopkins Sampson & Brown Real Estate Advisory Services, LLC served as tenant broker. The office represents the A.M.E Church in the World Council of Churches, the National Council of Churches and the Pan-Methodist Commission. It also speaks for the church on social action issues and also endorses its chaplains worldwide.
Other new tenants include real estate firm MB Properties, which committed to 600 square feet, and Sunsoft Services, an IT consulting and strategic outsourcing firm, which took 525 square feet.
"The Military Park Building's full occupancy milestone speaks to the overall progress being felt in the City of Newark," Berger noted. "Tenant activity here and at our other Newark office properties, new corporate development, local hotel construction, and the continued evolution of Newark's cultural and entertainment scene are creating a notable momentum."
Tenants at the 21-story office tower enjoy on-site parking, a fitness center, conference facilities, and onsite ownership and management. The Military Park Building offers commanding views of the surrounding city, New York skyline and Military Park, where a multi-million-dollar renovation is set to launch this spring. The property is proximate to Newark Liberty International Airport and major thoroughfares. It is within walking distance to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center and Penn Station, which provides 20-minute NJ Transit and PATH service to midtown and downtown Manhattan.
