Jones Lang LaSalle’s Relocation of SHI International Receives 2012 United Way Impact Award
Involvement in acquisition and extensive interior renovation and relocation project spotlights firm’s fully integrated service offerings
SOMERSET, N.J. (May 21, 2012)— Jones Lang LaSalle today announced that it was part of a team recently honored with the 2012 Impact Award from the United Way of Northern New Jersey in recognition of its Brokerage and Project and Development Services (PDS) groups’ roles in the relocation of SHI International from Piscataway to 290 Davidson Avenue in Somerset.
Recognizing the real estate transaction that had the greatest positive impact in the region within the last year, the Impact Award was bestowed during United Way’s 13th annual Commercial Real Estate Network Legacy Luncheon, which was attended by approximately 300 industry professionals and raised an estimated$110,000 for area nonprofits.
One of New Jersey’s largest interior commercial renovations of 2011, the project included comprehensive infrastructure improvements that transformed a former AT&T site it into a state-of-the-art, world headquarters for SHI — a fast-growing global provider of information technology products and services and leader in thecloud computing industry.Jones Lang LaSalle’s PDS group managed every aspect of the 15-month relocation, and also assisted SHI with keeping energy efficiency and conservation as focal points of the project, as well as handling the technical requirements of a new data center.
“The relocation of SHI International’s headquarters highlighted the strength and depth of Jones Lang LaSalle’s fully integrated service platform with our teams overseeing every aspect of the project — from the original purchase of the facility to project management and LEED oversight,” said Jones Lang LaSalle Senior Vice President Scott Lesh, who serves as Market Lead representative for the firm’s PDS group in New Jersey.“We are honored to receive this award and pleased to partner with the United Way to raise funds and awareness of area nonprofits.”
Jones Lang LaSalle had represented SHI International in its purchase of the 420,000-square-foot facility, which is three times larger than SHI’s previous headquarters, and houses nearly 1,000 employees in a campus setting.
“The purchase of 290 Davidson was a great opportunity for SHI International to acquire a terrific asset that can accommodate their continued growth,” Jones Lang LaSalle Senior Vice President Shawn Straka said.
The property features two, five-story towers connected on the main floor, as well as a third ancillary building. The interior workspaces follow the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED guidelines, and the roof is equipped with solar panels capable of generating 500 kilowatts of electricity annually that could offset SHI’s power consumption by as much as 15 percent.
“SHI’s commitment to pursue LEED certification for this project demonstrates the company’s commitment to creating a healthy and productive workplace for their employees while also delivering real energy savings,” said Dana Robbins Schneider, Jones Lang LaSalle’s Northeast market lead for energy and sustainability projects.
The data center was built using a series of best-of-breed, high-performance components connected with an emphasis on performance, resilience, and redundancy.
Jones Lang LaSalle’s PDS group provides corporate and institutional clients with management of design, construction and relocation services to minimize risk and eliminate unnecessary cost. Project specialties include interior build-outs and base building construction on single tenant properties or large-scale multi-site portfolios.
In addition to Jones Lang LaSalle, members of the project team that received the Impact Award included SHI President and CEO Thai Lee; architect Cornerstone Architectural Group, LLC; engineer Becht Engineering and contractors Turner Construction Company and Unity Construction Services.
