Jones Lang LaSalle Completes 15-Month Relocation for SHI International

Site transformed into state-of-the-art headquarters, allowing leading technology firm to capitalize on fast-growing cloud computing industry

Jones Lang LaSalle today announced that its Project and Development Services (PDS) group has completed a 15-month relocation data center project for SHI International at 290 Davidson Avenue in Somerset, N.J.

The PDS group managed every aspect of the relocation, which was one of New Jersey’s largest interior commercial renovations of 2011.  The project included the comprehensive infrastructure improvements that transformed a former AT&T site it into a state-of-the-art, world headquarters. Jones Lang LaSalle also assisted SHI — a fast-growing global provider of information technology products and services and leader in thecloud computing industry— with the technical requirements of the its new data center.

“This was a tremendous team effort and is a remarkable achievement for the Jones Lang LaSalle PDS group and SHI,” stated Jones Lang LaSalle Vice President Scott Lesh, who serves as Market Lead representative for the firm’s PDS group in New Jersey. “This is an important project that not only generated 500 construction jobs, but will reverberate throughout the commercial real estate and technology industries and help solidify New Jersey’s position as a tech leader.”

Last year, Jones Lang LaSalle represented SHI International in its purchase of the 420,000-square-foot facility, which is three times larger than SHI’s previous headquartersin Piscataway, N.J., and houses nearly 1,000 employees in a campus setting.

The property features two, five-story towers connected on the main floor, as well as a third ancillary building. The interior workspaces follow the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED guidelines, and the roof is equipped with solar panels capable of generating 500 kilowatts of electricity annually that could offset SHI’s power consumption by as much as 15 percent.

The data center was built using a series of best-of-breed, high-performance components connected with an emphasis on performance, resilience, and redundancy. The project was designed by the Cornerstone Architectural Group and engineered by Becht Engineering, while construction was lead by Turner Construction and Unity Construction.

Jones Lang LaSalle’s PDS group provides corporate and institutional clients with management of design, construction and relocation services to minimize risk and eliminate unnecessary cost. Project specialties include interior build-outs and base building construction on single tenant properties or large-scale multi-site portfolios.
