Investors Bank Selects Timothy J. Touhey To Expand Its New Commercial Financing Unit


Former Head of N.J. Builders Association Will Lead Lending Team for Bank’s South and Central Jersey Markets

Short Hills, New Jersey (April 4, 2013) –  To deepen its commitment to the South and Central Jersey business communities as a result of its pending Roma Bank acquisition, Investors Bankannounces the hiring of Timothy J. Touhey.  He is joining the Bank as a Senior Vice President and will be responsible for expanding the new unit of the Bank’s Commercial Real Estate Finance Group that will be located in Robbinsville, N.J.  Mr. Touhey will lead a team of lending officers who will provide financing to real estate organizations, developers and businesses in Southern and Central New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

Mr. Touhey brings to Investors broad expertise in financial services, construction, housing and urban development, government affairs, and relationship building across many industry sectors. He will report to Joseph Orefice who heads the Bank’s Commercial Lending and Real Estate Finance groups.

During his career in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, Mr. Touhey has advised and served several of New Jersey’s Governors including Chris Christie, Jon Corzine, Richard Codey, and Christine Todd Whitman. His high profile assignments and achievements as the CEO of New Jersey Builders Associationrecently earned Mr. Touhey a place on NJBIZ’s “Power 100,” the newspaper’s annual ranking of N.J.’s 100 most powerful people in business, and the publication’s “Power 50” People in Real Estate.

At Investors, Mr. Touhey will broaden and deepen the Bank’s relationships with businesses in central and southern N.J. and increase Investors presence by providing real estate financing to organizations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.

In announcing Mr. Touhey’s appointment, Mr. Cummings said, “We are pleased that Tim is joining Investors Bank. He has achieved much as a leader and trusted advisor during his career.  We look to Tim to provide strategic guidance as we expand our franchise in Southern New Jersey with the Roma Bank acquisition.”

Mr. Touhey served as Chief Executive Officer of the New Jersey Builders Association (NJBA) from Nov. 2007 to March 2013. Working with the NJBA’s Board and senior officers, he developed a comprehensive strategy to assist New Jersey’s home building industry during a prolonged downturn in construction activity.

At Investors, Mr. Touhey will work closely with the Bank’s Chief Lending Officer Richard Spengler, who along with Mr. Orefice and their team, has grown the Bank’s commercial lending portfolio since 2008.

In welcoming Mr. Touhey to Investors, Mr. Spengler said, “Tim brings to Investors proven relationships with the leaders of large and midsize organizations in many industries and sectors that directly influence economic activity in our State. He will be a strategic resource for our commercial and industrial lending teams, and he will help us expand our presence in South and Central Jersey, which are important for the Bank given our future growth in these markets with the pending Roma Bank acquisition.”

Prior to heading the NJBA, Mr. Touhey served eight years as the Lead Director of the Fannie Mae Northeast Community Business Center located in New Brunswick, N.J. 

Mr. Touhey  has served on the boards of and held executive positions  in a number of government and not-for-profit organizations that focus on regional planning, healthcare and mental health, housing, urban redevelopment, and homelessness.

Mr. Touhey received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and earned his Masters Degree in Social Work Policy/Administration from Rutgers University.
