Hampshire Destination Properties Restores Local Establishments And The Heartbeat Of The Community

03/24/2014

MORRISTOWN, N.J., March 24, 2014—Hampshire Destination Properties, an affiliate of the Hampshire Companies, is, among other things, a distinctive collection of hospitality and retail businesses that add value to local communities. By preserving and revitalizing historic and noteworthy properties, they help maintain the unique character of downtown communities while delivering one-of-a-kind destinations worth visiting. Bernardsville, NJ has benefitted from Hampshire Destination Properties’ smart investment strategies and stunning renovations with its restoration of The Bernards Inn and The Station Restaurant and Bar.

Hampshire, once again, established its ability to recognize and revive the heartbeat of a community with the purchase of The Station Restaurant. Originally built as The Claremont Hotel, in 1872, this building has undergone many changes over the years. It has housed a plumbing showroom, an antiques dealer, Carmine’s Barber Shop, an auto showroom, a tavern and multiple restaurants. In 2006, Hampshire purchased the long overlooked building and completed an extensive interior and exterior restoration. This restoration brought back a taste of the original hotel evoking the grandeur of train travel’s glory days. In 2013, Hampshire took The Station to the next level as a popular dining and gathering spot.

This hip, sleek restaurant has the familiarity of a local watering-hole with the look and flavors of an upscale city hotspot. The first impression one gets when entering the new interior is warm and welcoming. A wall of windows opens to the view of the Bernardsville train station, while inside, a gallery of photo canvases pay homage to the railways that changed Bernardsville forever. Earth-toned textures of tweed walls, coffered ceilings with dark wood beams, and roomy booths flanking the outer walls create an environment that is comfortable, tailored and beautifully lit. The large square bar invites conversation while several new well-placed, large screen TV’s provide easy viewing without overpowering the guests.

Recently spotlighted in local papers then subsequently on national news, The Station gained fame for its Manager’s, Geraldine Infantolino, thoughtful response to seeing the need for families to share a meal the old fashioned way – sans cells. Ms. Infantolino created a promotion which rewards families with a discount on their meals when they collectively place their phones in a basket for the entirety of their meal. Ms. Infantolino ushered in a program that has become a staple of the restaurant and a continued delight to parents and children alike.
