First Impression is a Lasting One at K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Great Notch
Clifton/Woodland Park, NJ, September 2014:There are times in life when something catches your eye and you find yourself drawn back to it, again and again, until inevitably, it’s yours. Maybe it’s a certain make and model of car, or a pair of designer shoes you saw in a showroom, or an exotic vacation destination. Jeff Stich and David Hoenig had one of those experiences, with one of North Jersey’s most popular active-adult lifestyle communities, K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Great Notch Spa and Club.
Stich and Hoenig first noticed the community a few years ago, when it was being built. “It’s very visible from the highway, so we would pass by all the time and comment on how interesting it looked,” David recalled. “We also saw their ads in the paper and always thought it looked very attractive. So we decided to go look at it, but not with an immediate eye to moving. We had a house in Kinnelon at the time, where we had lived for twenty years, but weren’t looking to move yet.” Jeff continued, adding, “We knew the time was coming, down the road, when we wouldn’t want to manage a house anymore, so we said ‘Let’s start thinking about this now.’”
K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Great Notch has a reputation for making that kind of strong and lasting impression. Set in a picturesque mountain rock quarryand surrounded by majestic cliffs, with spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, the Passaic County community has proven to be highly attractive to an increasing number of active adults not only from New Jersey, but Long Island and all throughout the metro New York area. The community offers an appealing combination of beautifully designed, spacious homes in a tranquil setting, with resort-style amenities, and a highly convenient location only 12 miles from New York City.
About two years ago, Stich and Hoenig started to get a little more serious about making a move, as Jeff explained. “We looked at several different communities in the area. We would see ads in the paper, or on TV, for communities in certain areas and then decide to go check them out.” As they searched, the gentlemen found themselves drawn back to K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Great Notch. “We kept coming back to Great Notch,” David noted. “We were living in a club community where we knew tons of people. We were used to certain things, like being in a gated, very social community. So we were looking for some of those aspects, but without the home maintenance – and that’s what Great Notch offered.”
K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Great Notch is indeed a very social community, with many activities and events taking place in the community’s magnificent 25,000-square-foot clubhouse. This impressive facility offers a variety of resort-like amenities, including indoor and outdoor pools, tennis and bocce courts, a putting green, billiards, card and craft rooms, and a fitness center. Residents enjoy a wealth of recreational and social lifestyle opportunities that are simply unsurpassed in the area.
Stich and Hoenig moved into the community last September (2013). Since they spend part of the year living in their second home in Florida, they haven’t had the opportunity to participate in too many activities yet. But one thing they discovered rather quickly was how warm, friendly, and welcoming the community is.
“The people who move here are extremely nice,” Jeff commented. “We’ve gotten to know everyone in our building, and they’re all wonderful people. We enjoy living here and being their neighbors. We’re very social and we like to get involved, so we really wanted a social community. We’ll meet up with our neighbors and have cocktails or dinner with each other. Right now we’re planning a progressive dinner for the building. We feel so lucky – everyone helps each other out, getting mail for each other when we’re away, etc. And that’s really important; it goes a long way. When we come back from Florida, we’re not seeing strangers, but friends.”
David agreed, adding, “Our building has a reputation as a very social, very friendly building. We all moved in around the same time, so that helped to make us all very close. Everybody we’ve met has been wonderful and we’ve made some good friends. Plus, we feel like we have the freedom to travel, to do things we’ve always wanted to do, knowing that our neighbors are keeping an eye out for us. It’s been a great experience.”
Location was also a very important factor for Stich and Hoenig. Privately tucked away and nicely removed from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Great Notch is still within easy reach of major highways, such as Routes 3 and 46, Interstate 80, the Garden State Parkway, and the New Jersey Turnpike. Nearby fine dining, lush parks and boutique shopping options abound. There is even a bus stop near the entrance of the community, providing direct access to Port Authority.
“One reason we loved Great Notch so much was the geography,” Jeff shared. “There were some other communities that we liked, but their location wasn’t good. We love the idea that we’re still close to our old area in Morris County, but also close to Manhattan, which we use more socially now that we live here.” David agreed, adding, “For me, still working part-time in Manhattan, it’s an easy drive and an easy commute. Before we moved here, I remember sometimes commuting, sitting in traffic and seeing Great Notch from the highway, thinking, ‘If I lived here, I could be home by now!’ And it’s true! We’re so close to the major roads, so wherever we have to go, we’ve got a good head start!”
At K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Great Notch, buyers can choose from a variety of luxurious home designs, including attractive villa, garden, and courtyard homes. There are floorplans that appeal to almost every type of active adult, with pricing from the low-$400s (prices subject to change). Each home is thoughtfully planned, offering from 1,426 to 2,907 square feet of beautifully designed living space, including two or three bedrooms and up to three full baths. Jeff and David chose a Zinnia garden home, which has a large living room with optional fireplace; a dining room that extends from the living room; a bright, open kitchen with an island and breakfast nook on one side of the home; and a luxurious master suite on the other side. “Size-wise, this was the best choice for us,” Jeff said. “We wanted to downsize and this model came closest to what we needed. And it gave us a little more flexibility in terms of doing the interior the way we like it, which is more contemporary.”
In hindsight, Jeff and David are glad they followed through with their initial attraction to K. Hovnanian’s® Four Seasons at Great Notch. Between the ideal location, the comfort of having gated security, the new friends they’ve made, and the good times they’re having, the two men have found their experience living in the community to be very positive – with only one regret. “We’re very happy living here,” David said. But as part-time Floridians, he and Jeff admit, “We only wish we could spend more time here!”
