EBCBOR Lends a Hand for A Bergen County Home
Members of the Eastern Bergen County Board of Realtors teamed up with Rebuilding Together Bergen County to paint and refurbish The Bergenfield Group Home recently in recognition of National Rebuilding Month. The team of 20 volunteers led by Community Service Committee Chair Miriam Lambert and Project Leaders Janet Ginsberg and Arlene Cohen dedicated the day to improving the living environment for the residents the Spectrum for Living home.
The Bergenfield Group Home is a community respite facility providing temporary placements to persons who are eligible for services through the Division of Developmental Disabilities to accommodate their families for vacations, hospital stays, or emergencies.
Katie Hennessy, Spectrum's Director of Support Services, wrote: "I am so appreciative the team from Eastern Bergen County Board of Realtors for the painting and beautification of our Bergenfield home. Their help and hard work gave the home a much needed make over and now the home looks more welcoming and cheerier for the individuals we serve”.
According to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, there are 5.2 million homeowners who live in deteriorating, physically inadequate homes that threaten their wellbeing. Therefore, the demand for Rebuilding Together’s services continues to grow as limited income homeowners, faced with diminishing resources, must choose food and medicine over critical home repairs — choices that, over time, lead to crumbling foundations, dangerously sagging roofs, and windows and doors that can’t be secured for their own safety.
“Through the work of our dedicated Rebuilding Together affiliates, such as the Eastern Bergen County Board of REALTORS we are able to see real and positive change in the homes and lives in the communities we serve,” said Lynn Buckingham, Community Outreach of Rebuilding Together Bergen County.
Rebuilding Together Bergen County, is a nonprofit with a vision of a safe and healthy home for every person. National Rebuilding Month is a nationwide call to provide safe and healthy homes for low-income homeowners and families across the country every Spring.
Chair of the Community Service Committee, Miriam Lambert of Friedberg Properties said, “As we rebuild homes, community spaces and nonprofit facilities, our lasting impact helps to stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods across the country. We believe that everyone deserves to live in a safe and healthy home.”
