City Girls Love Living on the Water at Dockside

Philadelphia, PA, November 2017: When Caren Wolford and Samantha (Sam) Fischer moved back to Philadelphia after living in Florida for five years, they had one key requirement. “The only place I would live is at Dockside,” Sam said, laughing.

She is referring, of course, to The Residences at Dockside, one of Philly’s most popular waterfront condominiums. Quietly set on the Delaware River, The Residences at Dockside is a 16-story luxury building featuring upscale condominiums and offering a desirable low-maintenance lifestyle, with some of the finest resort-style amenities in the area. Residents are close to Center City and within easy walking distance to all the best of Philadelphia. For Sam and Caren, it was mostly a matter of being on the water and being able to walk anywhere in the city.

“I had lived on the water before,” Sam said, “so that was very important to me. We knew Dockside from having looked to buy here before we moved to Florida, and we also knew some people who had lived here. Plus, we’re city girls. We like to live in the city and walk all around; to have everything at our fingertips, without having to drive anywhere. At Dockside, that’s what we have.”

The building’s location is undoubtedly one of its most appealing amenities. Set right on the water, The Residences at Dockside is in the center of the thriving Delaware River waterfront. Residents are just a short walk from Penn’s Landing and close to lots of high-end shopping, restaurants, nightlife and activities. The Race Street Pier, Sugarhouse Casino, Delaware River Trail, Seaport Museum, Adventure Aquarium and Susquehanna Bank Center are all easily accessible. Residents can also take a short walk over the South Street Bridge for more great shopping and dining in the city. And the community’s close proximity to the Philadelphia International Airport and major thoroughfares, including I-95, I-76 and 676, makes it convenient for residents to travel anywhere throughout the tri-state area. This was important for Caren, who works outside of the city and commutes every day.

Caren and Sam moved into Dockside as renters in 2008 and purchased their condo this year. “We have lived in a two-bedroom home, a one-bedroom home and now, a studio,” Caren shared. “We love our condo here – especially the great views we have of the Ben Franklin Bridge and the river.”

Being right on the water, Dockside does indeed offer some of the area’s most impressive city and water views. Buyers can choose from spacious two- and three-bedroom condominiums in a variety of floorplans, with prices that start from the $400,000s. The building also offers units for short-term rentals. All homes feature expansive private terraces, designer kitchens with high-end appliances and granite countertops, in-unit washers and dryers, hardwood floors, and generous storage space.

Residents also enjoy gated access, state-of-the-art security, a 24-hour concierge, and ample indoor parking, with reserved spaces and free visitor parking. Building amenities include an indoor pool and hot tub, a fitness center with cardio and resistance equipment, and a spacious Club Room for entertaining, which features a full catering kitchen, pool table, grand piano, large-screen TV and adjacent 4,100-square-foot terrace overlooking the river. Residents can also take advantage of a free shuttle bus that runs daily from their building to Center City, with a number of convenient stops. “The shuttle is very convenient if you work in the city, or to go in for dinner or happy hour,” Sam commented.

Sam and Caren are big fans of all the amenities at Dockside, but especially love the friendly vibe and social aspect of living there. “It’s a very friendly building,” Sam said. “You never feel isolated here. People really care about each other.” Caren agreed, adding, “When we first moved here, we were part of a group of six to eight people who started ‘Dockside Thursdays,’ an informal gathering on the second Thursday of each month in the Club Room, where everyone brings a dish to share. The group is now up to around 50 people each month. Other residents have started groups like tai chi, free dance lessons, and water aerobics. Every year the building hosts a big Valentine’s party and a holiday party. And one couple has a Kentucky Derby party every year, where everyone dresses up. So there’s always something fun to do.”

Living on the water. Being close to everything the city has to offer. And being in a friendly, warm community where people really enjoy each other and love getting together. It’s the perfect mix for Caren and Sam, who can’t imagine living anywhere else but Dockside. And they’re not alone. “We meet tenants who have been here only a month or so, who say ‘We love it here – we could never picture living anywhere else,” Sam said. “It’s awesome,” Caren said in summary. “We’ve brought friends to the building who have moved in as a result of our referral. Noreen and the whole staff here – I can’t say enough about them, either. It really comes down to where you want to be at the end of each day. If you want to live somewhere where you feel like you’re on vacation all the time, where people are, as they say in Key West, ‘one united family,’ Dockside is it.”
