Bauknight Joins the NAI Earle Furman Spartanburg Team
NAI Earle Furman is excited to welcome John Bauknight to its Spartanburg team of brokers. President and Co-founder of the Spartanburg-based investment firm Longleaf Holdings USA, John Bauknight said he was drawn to NAI Earle Furman for several reasons. “There is a wonderful team approach in place at NAI Earle Furman and excellent growth opportunities,” explains Bauknight. “When I’m considering new opportunities, I always look at several characteristics—the most important being the individuals involved. I believe it’s the people that make NAI Earle Furman different from the rest of the commercial real estate firms in our area.”
It also helped that Bauknight has known NAI Earle Furman Spartanburg Broker Andrew Babb since high school. “It’s exciting to work side by side with John again. We had our first business venture while in college” Babb explained. The two have formed their own team within the Spartanburg office.
Bauknight, who has been in the real estate business for over 20 years, credits timing as another reason why he is getting back into the field of commercial real estate. “It is evident that downtown Spartanburg is really hitting its stride right now. We have people from Greenville, Charleston, and Asheville, NC looking at doing projects here. That is when you know you’re really starting to clip.”
Ever since graduating from Wofford College, Bauknight has developed a genuine entrepreneurial spirit. He oversees several business ventures including Longleaf Holdings, LLC that owns and manages both commercial and residential real estate and has taken a minority position in several start-up businesses, the most recognized being Southern Tide. Bauknight explains, “If there’s one word that sums up what I think it takes to be a successful entrepreneur, it’s persistence – it doesn’t just happen overnight.” In 2007, Bauknight acquired RJ Rockers Brewing Co. He, along with Founder and Brewmaster Mark Johnsen, relocated the popular brewery to downtown Spartanburg two years later.
John Bauknight remains heavily involved in Spartanburg County’s entrepreneurial community, including helping to launch the Spartanburg Angel Network that combines the entrepreneurial culture, investor expertise, and mentoring talent of investors in Spartanburg with the SC Angel Network's proven investment model. “Joining NAI Earle Furman will keep me fully engaged in this community.”
