2011 Review-Highlights from SIOR-NJ Chapter Officers point to important educational input

11/21/2011

(November 21, 2011, Parsippany, NJ). Scott Peck, SIOR Senior Vice President at Resource Realty and SIOR New Jersey Chapter External Communications Leader recently reviewed the 2011 Chapter accomplishments with Andy Zezas-President, Mitch Katz-Vice President and Ian Gruzd-Treasurer & Secretary.

Several organization enhancements were instituted to focus on the need to provide members and sponsors an improved "value proposition". The officers recognized the need to consolidate the frequency of meeting because the time commitment for these high level brokers. Members are some of the best brokers in their markets as shown by the high standards of admissions. Mitch Katz, SIOR Vice President summarized "Despite a tough economy and the challenges it presented to the NJ real estate market, the NJ Chapter of SIOR thrived during 2011. Our meetings attracted unprecedented attendance levels. The meetings foster camaraderie amongst the members, and help facilitate discussions during which best in class practices are shared. This enables our members to provide the highest level of services to their clients. Our professionals are leaders in the industry and prepared to take on the challenges of 2012 and beyond. We have terrific sponsors who are integrated in our programs." Sponsors also understand the value of the "SIOR designation".

One modification this year was to add a Board of 12 Past Presidents (aka Council of Presidents) to meet with the officers and provide suggestions. Also, the membership meeting structure now involves a format for networking, SIOR business and then education. Some of the education topics included solar, real estate accounting changes and email legal issues. The SIOR website (www.siornj.com) attracted attention this year with the "Commercial Real Estate Minute". This effort had several SIOR brokers provide a minute (approximately) video overview of a real estate market or a specialty idea. These videos are hosted on the website for public viewing. Website upgrades included adding an individual page per broker in order to maximize exposure for the members and ability to post blogs or Tweet in the Twitter section.

Networking and social events were targeted at sponsors, new candidates and other real estate service professionals. The year started with a joint meeting in New York City at the NY Athletic Club with IOREBA. The national SIOR President, David Zimmer, was the featured speaker with his National Real Estate Overview. A "Sponsor Appreciation" event was held at Pazzo, Pazzo in Morristown with over 60 members and sponsors trying to stay cool during the hot late spring cocktail outing. Later in the summer, sponsors, candidates and members enjoyed a real estate conversation and a sampling of beverages at the Long Valley Brewpub. SIOR actively became an event sponsor at RealShare NJ-New Brunswick and Schein Media’s "Cocktails & Conversation" in Morristown. The NJ Chapter for SIOR will wrap up the year with their Holiday Cocktail Party for Sponsors and Members at the Huntley Taverne in Summit. "SIOR New Jersey concluded an eventful 2011 with numerous network and social opportunities for its members and sponsors. In times of economic uncertainty, twenty two ( 22) companies pledged their support to SIOR as 2011 sponsors which is a great testament to the strength of this group's membership and our involvement in the day to day Industrial and Office markets" stated Ian M. Grusd, SIOR Treasurer.

Andrew Zezas, SIORNJ 2011 President said "2011 was a great year for SIORNJ! We regained a lot of the spark on which the Chapter was founded. SIORNJ members are at the forefront of New Jersey's economic recovery, many of whom are having incredibly successful years.
