Neiman Marcus moves to Hudson Yards in New York
As it turns out, getting Neiman Marcus to join Hudson Yards was no easy feat, given the specific situation for this company. Namely, the people in charge were concerned whether designer brands sold at Bergdorf Goodman on 5th Avenue and 57th Street (Neiman Marcus’ sister company) would also sell at Hudson Yards. After two months of going back and forth, the vast majority of the usual brands at Neiman Marcus agreed to sell at the Hudson Yards site.
The second problem was a long-standing agreement which Neiman Marcus had with the Goodman family, the original owners of Bergdorf Goodman. Namely, in the agreement it is stated that Neiman Marcus is prohibited from opening a store in Manhattan, as it would compete with Bergdorf’s. After some negotiation, the issue was settled, once the Goodman family was given an undisclosed amount of money to give the green light.
