I am currently in Las Vegas for the ICSC convention and it is remarkable how many New York commercial real estate market participants are out here.
For the first time since I have been coming out here for the convention, I will not be attending the formal gathering at the convention center. The reason is that the pool at the Wynn is occupied by a tremendous number of New York City real estate folks. The weather has been great and the days are full of "meetings" with some of the top folks in our industry. The booths that exist in the convention center are replaced by poolside cabanas filled with food and refreshments. It is like a networking event on steroids.
Tonight at the Bellagio is the New York Developers Party which is my favorite event out here. Think REBNY banquet without the bow ties!
For those of you who read my writing, you know that I believe networking is a key to success in our industry. The ICSC convention provides one of the best networking opportunities of the year, particularly if you are exploring the right poolside venues.
The relationships that are made, and strengthened, in a social environment like this are long lasting and tough to replicate in a different environment. So when it comes to the relationships made here, what happens in Vegas, DOESN'T stay in Vegas!
