The City and it’s partners have deployed an award winning branding campaign that’s been quite successfully at making the case for Jersey City to developers and business selection specialists. With hotel occupancy rates north of 90%, the city is welcomed as a retail, restaurant and cultural destination. It’s clear that Jersey City development & marketing efforts are firing on all cylinders. The slew of mixed-use projects taking form are expected to create nearly $5 Billion in new residential, retail and commercial value.
The Timing is Primed
There are a series of historic expansions that are transforming Jersey City. New restaurants and eateries keep arriving and growing. There is an especially strong convergence of creative entrepreneurs, boutique, luxury, fashion and makers that have made the food & retail scene in Jersey City extraordinarily diverse. The re-organization of the city’s planning and building department has helped launch large projects across the city and has uniformly helped streamline the planning and approval process.
Smart infrastructure improvements in public transit and incentives around transit-oriented development are aligning to unlock new neighborhoods and further growth off the waterfront. Plans include development on the far West Side for NJCU on 440, 18th Street in Lower Jersey City (near Jersey/Hoboken Avenue) and Canal Crossing. Creative plans even call for trolley line proposals. Many of the cities neighborhoods are expanding with new transitioning neighborhoods seeing plans implemented. These include Caven Point, Bergen/Lafayette and expanding enclaves such as Liberty Harbor North, Colgate and Hudson Exchange West.
